THE GREEN FUNERAL COMPANY

With nearly 25 years of experience, The Green Funeral Company is the original, progressive, green funeral company, offering an ecological alternative for both burial and cremation.

About Us

Based in the South West, we work from Dartington, Totnes and can cover both Devon and Cornwall.

We offer a genuinely unique and immersive approach to organising a funeral. We believe a funeral can be a reflection of a life, as well as an acknowledgement of loss. A good funeral is created with the belief that it honours the person who has died, but it is also for the benefit of the living. We work closely with families to help them choose the right funeral for their own personal, unique circumstances. Done well, it is an important part of the healing process.

Our Services

The Green Funeral Company has always consisted of just two people. Currently Rupert Callender and Claire Burton. This small and personal approach means you know who is answering the phone, collecting the body, meeting with you, carrying the coffin with you and even writing and holding the ceremony, if you wish us to.

Burials
As well as traditional religious burials in a churchyard or cemetery, we can arrange for a natural burial. Natural burials are increasingly popular and we have strong connections with the growing number of sites in the Cornwall and Devon.

Cremation
We have experience with all West Country crematoriums. Crematoriums can feel impersonal, but this needn't be the case, nor does everything have to happen there. We are happy to think outside the box to help create a meaningful and personal ceremony.

As Funeral Directors and Undertakers

We Believe...

People are as different in death as they are in life. We have experience in arranging funerals that encompass diverse religious and spiritual beliefs, as well as non-religious ceremonies.

We Believe...

That a life fully honoured by recognising all of its complexities, with truth, compassion and insight. We believe in supporting families to choose a funeral that is most in keeping for the person who died.

We Believe...

A funeral is not an event that you turn up to, it is something that we do together as a congregation. This belief applies as much to a ceremony in a church, a crematorium, a field or a wood.
