Torbay Crematorium, Torquay

Run by Westerleigh Group. Duration and cost varies a lot! From 1st April 2025, through the main part of the day (from 10.30am – 4.30pm and at 7pm and 8pm) you can book 60 minutes of chapel time, including entrance and exit, for £1295 (Monday to Wednesday) and £1395 (Thursday and Friday). There are two 60 minute slots at 9.30am and 5.30pm, which costs £995. There are three 30 minute options, with a 20 minute ceremony, at 8.30am, 9.00am and 6.30pm, at £895. An additional hour may be booked, for an extra £395.

Uses Obitus Music System and can offer a single photo tribute for free. Steaming, extra photos and keepsakes are offered at extra cost. See the website for details.

Exeter and Devon Crematorium

Owned and run by Dignity. A crematorium with two chapels St Pauls (smaller) and St Peter (big) and extensive mature gardens. The cost from June 2025, for a 60 minute attended cremation (Mon – Fri), is £1295. A reduced fee, 60 minute cremation can be booked at 9.30am and 10.30am for £950. A half hour is available 8.30 – 9.00 for £730.

The Park Crematorium, Plymouth

Owned and run by Plymouth City Council. Newly built, with three ceremonial rooms of varying sizes, a cafe and lots of parking. 

From April 1st 2025 the costs for an attended service are – £1125 for a 30 minute, £1230 for a 45 minute and £1650 for a 90 minute service. For no service, 4 mourners, 5 minutes, it is £770. Music is free but all other audio and visual services have a fee.

East Devon Crematorium

Part of an independent co-operative society, Southern Co-op and set in rural surroundings, this crematorium also works in partnership with the Devon Wildlife Trust. It’s spacious and modern. As of January 2025 the standard fee, for 30 minutes chapel use, is £1090. The reduced fee, for 20 minutes, at 9.30am, is £850.

The cost of additional time varies. For 20 mins extra at the reduced time, it is £430. For 30 minutes, at the standard time, it costs £540.

Glynn Valley Crematorium, Bodmin

Owned and run by Dignity. Each slot is an hour so allowing 15 minutes for people to arrive and leave, which leaves 45 minutes, which is fine. This is possibly the nicest crematorium we use. Bose sound system and a full music library. Beautiful floor to ceiling window looking out down a beautiful valley, occasionally a steam train puffs past, and rabbits can be seen hopping about on the grass. Staff helpful and accommodating.

The cost from June 2025, for a 60 minute attended cremation, will be £1295 etc. Prices are the same as Exeter’s.

Penmount Crematorium, Truro

Owned and run by Local authority. Beautiful extensive gardens. Extremely good new soundsystem and uses Obitus Music System. The smaller of the two chapels is the nicest, with high windows, and a real Cornish Wesleyen feel.

From 1st April 25 the cost is £1126 for 60 minute service. Additional chapel time of 60 minutes costs £212. There are off-peak options at 9am, 9.30am, 4pm and 4.30pm (Mon – Wed) at £796.

Taunton Deane Crematorium

Run by the County Council. Time allowed is 30 minutes, which gives you 20 minutes for a ceremony. This is a light and airy crematorium, well designed, but with the pressure of a busy urban crematorium. Has an Obitus Sound System.

As of the 1st April 2025 the cost is £1100 for an attended service between 10am and 4pm – for 40 minutes total. An early chapel ceremony of 9.00am or 9.30am is £495 for 30 minutes, 20 people maximum. An extended service is an additional £119. Further information can be found on their website.

Please note, attitudes to service time, special requests, candles, animals being present etc vary from place to place, so please ask if there is something specific that you wish to have.
